Daniel Esteban Castillo Herrera
Co-Chair
Daniel Castillo is a first-year English student at UCL. He was born in the U.S, but grew up in Quito, Ethiopia and Thailand. He grew to appreciate the complexity of international relations through different cultural lenses due to his family's constant travelling. He began his MUN journey in Chiang Mai Thailand, attending numerous conferences in hopes of attaining enough experience to effect genuine political change in Ecuador's international relations. Having convinced himself of the fundamental value of literature in his Nietzschean extended essay, Daniel focuses the majority of his free time exploring literature and writing, with a current interest on absurdist theatre and a growing resentment towards Old and Middle English.
Nilton Borges Aranda Neto
Co-Chair
Nilton is a first year BSc Biomedical Sciences student at Queen Mary London. He has been doing MUN for 6 years now and has had a wide variety of roles as both a delegate and chair. His MUN specialty is International Sovereign and Human Rights law, specialising in chairing ICJs and ICCs alike. As a STEM student Nilton believes that MUN serves as a type of bridge to understanding the nuance of the everyday world and plus, who doesn't love to argue? Nilton is very much in love with his degree and can be found living in the library, learning German, and playing piano for the Queen Mary choir.
Ashoka Thomas Karl Bandi Phillips
Co-Chair
Ashoka is a first year History and International Relations student SOAS. MUN has been a big part of his life for the last 7 years of his life where he has helped to organise and chair several conferences, in particular he focuses on setting up new committees types and helping to design their rules of procedure. He began his MUN journey at EAMUN conference in Kenya as a year 6, since then he has fallen in love with all forms of debating. He is passionate about creating a supportive space where individuals grappling with public speaking challenges can find their confidence. Simultaneously, for those naturally gifted in articulation, he wants to push them beyond their boundaries and refine their talents. Currently he spends most of his free time reading books such as Down and Out in Paris and London or playing video games like Tears of the Kingdom.
Ekaterina Chasovnikova
Assistant Chair
Ekaterina (Katya) is a Year 12 IB student at Box Hill School in Surrey. She was born in Moscow, Russia but lives here in England. Upon discovering MUN, she helped establish and develop it at her school and has been a delegate, chair as well as an ICJ Judge and President at past conferences. Recently, she has been working on various initiatives to encourage students across year groups at her school to get involved in Model UN and helps them work on their debating, research and public speaking skills. Her hobbies aside from MUN involve anything and everything creative (and occasionally a bit of golf). She is interested in law (particularly international) and plans to study it in the future. Currently she enjoys reading – either a good classic or a popular history book.
