Special Political and Decolonisation Committee (SPECPOL)
Note: This is an intermediate committee available to delegates from all years.
Agenda
Topic A: Developing a strategy for securing self-determination in Western Sahara

Topic B: Regulating the peaceful uses of outer space
Megan Kong
Co-Chair
Megan is a second year Politics and IR student from UCL. It’s her pleasure to chair SPECPOL alongside Samuel and Sophie. She hasn’t been chairing a lot if MUN conference in UK, but she has been doing MUN since 2017 in Hong Kong. She is extremely excited to embark on this amazing journey with everyone, and she can’t wait to see you all at the conference! P.S. Outside MUN, you will either find her singing, or on Taekwondo mats.
Samuel Chacón González
Co-Chair
Samuel is a third-year undergraduate student of Political Science and Administration at the Pablo de Olavide University in Seville, Spain. This year, he is an Affiliate European Social and Political Studies student at UCL as part of the Erasmus programme. He grew up in Seville, southern Spain. While he has a background in academic debate and British Parliament, his MUN journey began as part of TeamUCL, participating in conferences such as Oxford International MUN and UCLMUN. He is also a First-Year Representative in the UCL United Nations Association. Outside of MUN, Samuel is passionate about history, geopolitics and international relations. As a violinist, he loves to play and listen to classical music. But he also likes rap and Spanish 80s pop-rock.
Maria Kliuchnikova
Co-Chair
Maria is a Russian-French first year student in Politics and Sociology at UCL's School of Slavonic and East European Studies. Her MUN journey began online - at THIMUN 2022 - and since then, she has delegated and chaired a few top committees, managing to then get elected as Deputy Secretary General for a conference in France. This will be her first time chairing for a university conference and she is very much looking forward to it. Outside of MUN and academics, Maria is above all a music enthusiast (whether it is playing music, writing articles for a music magazine or simply creating hundreds of unnecessary playlists) and a basketball player for UCL's Women's team.
Sara Kapoor
Assistant Chair
Sara is an A - Level student in Year 13 and does History, Economics and Mathematics. She started her MUN journey as a delegate in Year 8 and has since participated and chaired conferences. She is very excited to be part of SPECPOL at LSEMUN. Outside MUN and school you can find her kickboxing or at her local bookstore.
